Truth that changes everything

Someone gave you an ENGAGE! card, or you found this link on the back of one. They wanted you to hear the most important news there is. Walk with us down the Romans Road: the path through the book of Romans that shows who God is, what went wrong, and how you can be made right with Him.

1God is real, and you know it

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”Romans 1:20

God has made Himself known in what He made. You are not an accident. You were created by God and for God.

Why believe it? The universe had a beginning, and its laws are finely tuned for life. A Creator explains that better than chance.

2All of us have sinned

“None is righteous, no, not one.”Romans 3:10
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”Romans 3:23

Sin is going our own way instead of God’s. Every one of us has done it, and it separates us from a holy God.

Why believe it? Every person knows some things are truly right and truly wrong, and none of us keeps even our own standard.

3Sin brings death

“Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.”Romans 5:12
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”Romans 6:23

What sin earns is death, separation from God forever. But notice the word “but.” God offers a free gift.

4Jesus died for you and rose again

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 5:8
“…declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.”Romans 1:4

Jesus, God the Son, died in your place for your sins, and on the third day He rose from the grave.

Why believe it? Most historians who study it, skeptics included, agree Jesus died by crucifixion, His followers truly believed they saw Him alive, and skeptics like James and Paul came to believe. The best explanation: He is risen.

5Call on Him and be saved

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”Romans 10:9-10
“For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”Romans 10:13

Salvation isn’t earned. You receive it by turning from your sin and trusting Jesus as Lord.

6Peace with God

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”Romans 5:1
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”Romans 8:1
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”Romans 8:38-39

What if it’s all true?

This is about truth. It’s about true life and a real eternity. Don’t leave this question unanswered. Every person has to answer what they have done with Jesus. Ask, explore, and take the step of faith to trust Jesus. Will you place your faith in Him today?

Words don’t save you; Jesus does. If you’re ready, tell Him something like this:

“God, I know I have sinned against You and I can’t save myself. I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sin and put my trust in Jesus. I receive Him as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for forgiving me and giving me new life. Help me follow You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Not ready yet? Keep asking. Honest Answers is a good place to start.

Did you just trust Jesus? Tell us.

  • Tell the person who gave you the card. They’ve been praying for you.
  • Find a church that teaches the Bible and go this Sunday. Ask a pastor about baptism.
  • Start reading the Bible. Begin with the Gospel of John.
